        • NMC issued blue warning of sandstorm to hit northern China

          Influenced by cold air and gale, from April 15 to 16, blowing sand or floating dust will hit eastern Xinjiang, South Xinjiang Basin ,northwestern Qinghai, central-western Gansu, central-western Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, central-northern Shaanxi, Shanxi, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Henan, central-western Shandong, central-northern Anhui and northern Jiangsu. Sandstorm will affect some parts of central-western Inner Mongolia.

          Fengyun satellites monitor La Soufriere volcanic eruption on Saint Vincent Island

          According to the Fengyun satellite monitoring, it’s shown that the volcano erupted a large amount of earthy yellow volcanic ash, which gradually spread to the eastern sea area under the influence of upper westerly wind though the true color image of FY-3D. It is estimated that the highest altitude of volcanic ash cloud is 17.4 km. As of April 12, the height of volcanic ash cloud has decreased during the diffusion process, and the influence area has reached 39000 square kilometers.

        • CMA issued international training program of 2021

          On March 1, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) carried out a plan for 2021 international training courses, which will include 9 international distance training courses in the fields of weather forecast, climate prediction, meteorological satellite, aeronautical meteorology services, meteorological observation, WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS), management of NMHSs and typhoon forecast.

        • WMC Beijing held annual conference to propel high-quality development

          World Meteorological Centre Beijing (WMC Beijing) held the annual working conference on 9 March in Beijing. The conference reviewed the works in 2020, discussed the development priorities for next step and identified the key tasks in 2021. Mr. Yu Yong, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) attended the conference.

        • The 53rd session of Typhoon Committee was held online

          From 23 to 25 February, the 53rd annual Session of the Typhoon Committee was held online. The Session was convened by the Typhoon Committee, under the auspices of the Uniated Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The officials and experts in the fields of meteorology, hydrology and disaster preparedness and reduction participated in the session to discuss the development of new plans to improve regional level of typhoon disasters preparedness and reduction. Mr. Yu Yong, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) led the Chinese delegation to attend the meeting in Beijing.

        • CMA attended the second part of the first session of WMO Services Commission

          On 22 February, the Commission for Weather, Climate, Water and Related Environmental Services and Applications (Services Commission) of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) held the second part of the first session via video meeting. Mr. Yu Yong, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) led the Chinese delegation to attend the meeting in Beijing.

          On February 3, 2021 WMO Secretary General Briefing to Permanent Representatives was held online, which consulted on how to further reinforce global meteorological governance and cooperation. Mr. Yu Yong, Deputy Administrator of China Meteorological Administration (CMA) attended the meeting in Beijing.
